Fresh headlines for a project next to your installed AI chat

The chat you added to your home screen does not read the news on its own; the model it runs on was trained once and stopped there. FreeNewsAPI is a free full-text news search API with no key, no signup and no quota, meant for agents and scripts that need current headlines rather than for the chat interface itself.

Nothing about installing an AI chat gives it a live news feed; the icon and the launcher are cosmetic changes to how the page opens. If a project you are building around it needs to know what happened today, that has to be a separate connection, and FreeNewsAPI is built specifically for that case rather than as an add-on to the chat.

Why the installed app stays behind

A chat pinned to your home screen still runs the same model it ran in the browser tab, and that model's knowledge stops at its training cutoff, whenever that was set. No amount of installing, pinning or updating the icon changes this, because the fix has nothing to do with the shell around the model and everything to do with what data the model was ever shown.

What FreeNewsAPI provides

FreeNewsAPI indexes more than 150,000 articles a day from over 25,000 publishers, refreshed continuously rather than on a fixed schedule. It is a free full-text news search API built for AI agents, with no API key, no signup and no quota to run into partway through testing. An MCP connector is available for setups that already talk to tools that way instead of raw REST calls.

The problem it is built against

The homepage points at a familiar failure: a news API that answers with a 401 error the moment a request arrives without a key, forcing a signup before anything works. FreeNewsAPI removes that step entirely, so a script can send a query the first time it runs, not after an account has been created, verified and approved by someone else's process.

Wiring it into something you build

A script sends a topic, gets back full-text articles as structured data, and feeds a short summary into whatever prompt uses it, whether that is a daily digest or a one-off lookup. This sits outside the installed chat itself, in an agent or automation you run alongside it, the same way any other external data source would be added to a project.

What is not documented

FreeNewsAPI does not publish a specific latency figure, a stated depth for historical articles, or a sentiment-analysis feature, and there is no paid tier described on top of the free one. Build around what is stated rather than what seems implied, and treat anything not on the fact sheet as unconfirmed until you test it yourself.
