Add a website to your home screen in 3 taps
A website can sit on your home screen like an app. On Android, open it in Chrome, tap the menu, then Add to Home screen or Install app. On iPhone, open it in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. The icon opens the site in 1 tap, with no store, no download and no account with a store.
Many AI chats work fully in the browser, so a store app adds little. A home-screen icon gives you the speed of an app without installing anything. The steps are short, and the few things that go wrong are easy to fix.
On this page
Android, in Chrome
Open the site in Chrome and tap the 3-dot menu at the top right. Choose Install app if it appears, or Add to Home screen. Confirm the name and tap Add. The icon appears on your home screen and can be moved like any other. Other Android browsers, such as Samsung Internet or Firefox, have the same option in their menu.
iPhone, in Safari
Open the site in Safari and tap the Share button, the square with an arrow. Scroll down the list and tap Add to Home Screen. Edit the name if you want a shorter name, then tap Add. On newer versions of iOS, other browsers can do the same from their Share menu.
What you get
The icon opens the site directly, often without the address bar, so it feels like an app. It follows the site: when the site changes, you see the change with no update to install. It takes almost no storage, and removing the icon removes it completely.
What you do not get
A home-screen site is still a website. It needs a connection unless the site says it works offline, and it cannot use every phone feature the way a store app can. Sign-in and settings are kept in the browser's storage, so clearing the browser's site data can reset them.
If the option is missing
The most common cause is a page opened inside another app, such as a chat or social app's built-in browser. Open the link in Chrome or Safari itself. Private or incognito mode can also hide the option. On iPhone the option only exists in the browser's Share sheet, and it can be below the fold, so scroll the list.
Check the address before adding
Add the site only from the address you typed or from the service's own page. An icon is a shortcut to whatever address it was made from, so a copy of the site made from a look-alike address would look identical on the home screen. Read the address in the bar first.
Questions about the app
Does it work on both Android and iPhone?
Yes. The steps differ slightly, but both let you place a website icon on the home screen from the browser.
Is a home-screen icon the same as an app?
It looks like one and opens in 1 tap, but it is a website. It does not come from a store and does not install code on your phone.
How do I remove it?
Press and hold the icon, then choose Remove or Delete. This removes only the shortcut.
Does the site keep working after a browser update?
Yes. The icon points to the website, so updates to the browser or the site need nothing from you.
